October bill looks higher? Do not assume rates rose

① The $36 California Climate Credit generally appears on each August and September 2026 bill, not the October bill.
② Winter rate schedules begin October 1.
③ Winter time periods differ and have no On-Peak tier.

These changes are not, by themselves, a rate increase. Check the line items on your own bill. Billing cycles may cross months, so a credit can appear later.

First check potential CARE or FERA eligibility. Applying is free and requires no equipment.

Then check your rate plan

See whether your current plan matches when you actually use electricity. No equipment is required.

Only then consider more

If the bill still feels high after the first two steps, consider other home-energy options.

First check potential bill-assistance eligibility

CARE provides a 30–35% electric-bill reduction; FERA provides an 18% electric-bill reduction. Limits below apply June 1, 2026–May 31, 2027.

Compare rate plans by season

SCE summer runs June–September; winter runs October–May. Winter has no On-Peak period—the highest period is Mid-Peak.

SCE uses full plan names online, while your bill may show a short code. A mismatch does not mean you read it wrong.

TOU-D 4 PM to 9 PM

Weekdays 4–9pm: On-Peak 58¢/kWh

No On-Peak; 4–9pm Mid-Peak 51¢/kWh

TOU-D 5 PM to 8 PM

After switching to a TOU plan, you cannot switch again for 12 months.

If you already have solar, do not rely on a standard online comparison. NEM / SBP customers should request a customized comparison from their electricity provider.

Having an EV does not automatically make PRIME the best choice; when you charge matters.
